The Journey is a circle

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.”
― Ursula K. Le Guin

Tomorrow is the first New Moon of the Julian/Gregorian Calendar month known as January. The etymology of the word has roots that travel to Janus, Juno, beginnings, and doorways. The modern human psyche feels this time of year as a way to start anew, allowing things to change for the better.

What's interesting to me, from various standpoints, is that we can sometimes forget that January will come once again. Our minds race to find answers for the future, and we set goals/intentions that we hope will last the entire year. Just like the great cosmic Fool, we gather our belongings in a bag, put on some comfortable shoes, and step off into the unknown...with a skeptical confidence that we will most surely reach our destination before year's end.

Except, truly, it doesn't work that way. There is no end to the Journey of Life until we are no longer in our physical bodies. Then, depending on your belief system, our Soul will continue to move forward in hopes of gathering a little bit more wisdom. What a wonderful gift to know that we have so many more January days in our future. Knowing this is a blessing, because it allows us to relax a bit and enjoy the ride.

“The only journey is the one within.” ― Rainer Maria Rilke

Today I invite you to think of one thing you want to work on this year. Write it down on a piece of paper, add some embellishments if you'd like, then place it somewhere you will see it everyday. Allow your inner self to guide you, and remember to make your intention one that can be attained. If you want, feel free to share it in the comments.

Much love,
